The Birch tree or Betula Lenta has dark red bark with a sweet scent very similar to wintergreen. Our birch essential oil is steam-distilled from the bark of Canadian birch trees.
The tree has been used for hundreds of years – Native Americans pounded the bark and used it in poultices and warming teas.
Did you know that Betula lenta or sweet birch is also known as black birch, cherry birch, mahogany birch, or spice birch?
It is a species of birch native to eastern North America, from southern Maine west to southernmost Ontario, and south in the Appalachian Mountains to northern Georgia.
