Many of us considered the origin of the steampunk word in the 60s and 70s, but the term showed up in the late 80s as a tongue-in-cheek variant of cyberpunk. The science fiction author K W Jeter was trying to find a word for Morlock Night and Infernal Devices style. These novels took place in a Victorian setting (19th century) and resembled the famous H. G. Wells’ fiction The Time Machine. Steampunk sunglasses design comes from the concept.
There are different variants of this shades style. Some are barely John Lennon type (round glasses), others are quite sophisticated with gears and brackets. The Royal Hot pair sold here is in between not too much but enough to be classified as steampunk. they are totally unisex and come with the best UV protection around and are polarized.
